The Labyrinth Lord Distribution Drive was a success!
The distribution drive was a wonderful success! The target has been met, and the drive is now over. Thanks to everyone for your support. I'm very excited to get Labyrinth Lord to a wider audience, and it couldn't have been done without the support of the online community.

Back to the basics of old-school fantasy gaming.
Labyrinth Lord is developed under the Open Game License (OGL), by Wizards of the Coast, and is the newest pen-and-paper retro-clone game system by Goblinoid Games. It is due for release in mid to late July of 2007. For a discussion of what a retro-clone game system is and what it seeks to do, please visit our home page through one of the links above.
What is Labyrinth Lord?
Labyrinth Lord takes us back to the basics of old-school fantasy gaming by combining text and terms provided by Open Game Content (OGC) released under the OGL, and game system algorithms from simple fantasy game systems of the late 70s and early 80s. This combination of terms, text, and new algorithm expression forms the basis of Labyrinth Lord as a reference document for players and third-party publishers, who will be able produce material for Labyrinth Lord with a free license. The license and its terms will be released concurrently with the core rule book. One important feature of this arrangement is that the majority of Labyrinth Lord will be Open Game Content. In addition, there will be very few restrictions in the Labyrinth Lord license, meaning that fans and publishers alike will be able to create virtually any material and refer to the Labyrinth Lord trademark. By taking this route, publishers and fans can establish this brand name as something that is collectively understood to be completely compatible with similar simple fantasy systems from the 70s and 80s.
How will Labyrinth Lord be available?
The core book will be a complete, stand-alone role-playing game. A free pdf will be provided as a reference to all players and publishers. For those who wish to support the efforts of Goblinoid Games for producing this document, a perfect bound paperback version, a coil bound version, and a hardback version will be available for sale. Some people will ask why these bound versions will not be sold at cost, as we have done with the GORE core book. There are two reasons, and the first is that sales proceeds will go to paying for development and art costs. We strongly support open gaming, but there are certain cost realities to developing these products, and we hope our audience will be sympathetic to this. The second, and most important reason, is because it is our goal to get Labyrinth Lord into game stores, and to do this we have to price the books, though modestly, at an industry-comparable price to allow Labyrinth Lord a realistic place in the chain of distribution.
What is the future of Labyrinth Lord?
Although the birthplace of retro-clone game systems is in our online communities, we must reach out to a wider audience if these systems are to get a foothold into the mainstream. A wider audience will ensure wider support by publishers, and we can get more and higher quality gaming material into the hands of all of us old-school gamer fans. The future of this game will depend on all of you. If you love the game, then please support it by talking about it, buying material for it, and most importantly, playing it!
If anyone has any questions about this exciting new game, please feel free to drop us an email. For now, we get back to the final writing and development!
